Business Owner Mom Tips for a Stress Free Summer

June 27, 20253 min read

Let’s be real: summer as a business-owning mom is chaos. The routines are gone, the kids are home (or in half-day camps), and your business? Still running. But instead of trying to juggle it all perfectly, what if we gave ourselves permission to do less – and actually enjoy the season?

This summer, I’m letting go of a few things… so that I can create more peace, fun, and memories this summer. And I hope to encourage you to do the same!

What I’m Letting Go Of: Doing a Million Things at Once

This summer, I’m letting go of trying to do everything at once.

That means if I’m at the pool with my kids, I’m at the pool. Not half-working, half-watching, half-scrolling. Just at the pool. And when I’m in my office for a few focused hours while the kids are at camp, I’m in my office – tuned in, locked in, and getting the highest-priority work done.

Gone are the 20-task to-do lists that leave me drained and scattered. Instead, I’m focusing on the big-picture tasks that only I can do:

  • High-level tax strategy for our firm’s top clients

  • Leading our marketing and sales direction

  • Preparing for our team retreat and upcoming fall launches

  • Creating the kind of culture and client experience that sets our firm apart

I can’t do any of that well if I’m bogged down in busywork or trying to multitask my way through summer.

Your Stress Free Summer Starts With Letting Go

If you’re a mom running a business, you already know – summer doesn’t slow down unless you do. That’s why I’m challenging myself (and you!) to release the pressure to do it all and instead get intentional about what actually matters.

It’s taken me 18 months to fully lean into the idea that doing less can actually create more: More clarity, more creativity, more peace, and more presence – with my kids, my team, and myself.

And guess what? For me, that’s been the magic formula for a stress free summer (mostly, anyway!).

3 Quick Tips for Business Moms Who Want a Stress Free Summer

1. Pick One Thing to Let Go Of

Maybe it’s checking email constantly. Maybe it’s cooking every meal from scratch. Maybe it’s saying yes to every single client request. Whatever it is – identify it, name it, and release it.

2. Block Your Time Intentionally

You don’t need to work all day to get results. Choose your focused work windows (maybe it’s while the kids are at camp or during nap time), and protect them fiercely. Outside those hours? Give yourself permission to actually be off.

3. Redefine Productivity

Productivity in the summer might look like closing your laptop early to catch fireflies, or skipping a Zoom call so you can make popsicles with your kids. That doesn’t make you less of a business owner – it makes you a wise one.

You Only Get So Many Summers

Here’s what I’m reminding myself daily: We only get so many summers with our kids. So many summers to lay in the grass, run through sprinklers, or make pancakes on a Tuesday.

You deserve a business that keeps growing and a summer that fills your heart. And the good news? Those things don’t have to compete. With the right systems and support, you can have both.
