When people ask me what belief I had to let go of in order to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship, the answer always comes quickly:
I had to let go of the idea that work life balance for moms meant doing both at the same time.

For years, I convinced myself that running a business from home gave me the ultimate setup for balance. I could squeeze in a load of laundry between emails, prep dinner while hopping on a Zoom call, and answer client questions while helping with homework.

But the truth? That kind of “balance” left me overwhelmed, stressed, and constantly feeling like I was dropping balls in both worlds.

It wasn’t real balance. And it certainly wasn’t the kind of sustainable, fulfilling work life balance for moms that I know so many of us are desperately seeking.

Why Multitasking Isn’t the Answer to Achieving Work-Life Balance for Moms

At some point, multitasking became the badge of honor for busy moms and entrepreneurs. If you could juggle all the things at once, you were “winning,” right?

Except… multitasking isn’t a superpower. It’s a recipe for mental exhaustion and constant stress.

Every time you switch tasks – whether it’s jumping from work to family or family to work – your brain has to work overtime to adjust. You lose focus. You lose energy. And you never fully feel present in either role.

When I realized how much multitasking was actually hurting me (and everyone around me), I made a major shift. I stopped trying to wear all the hats at once – and everything started to change.

What True Work Life Balance for Moms Looks Like (At Least for Me)

Here’s the reality check: work life balance for moms is flexible. It doesn’t look the same for everyone, and it doesn’t need to.

For me, real balance started with creating clear boundaries between my roles – not blending them together.

Here’s what my days look like now:

  • Early mornings are sacred.I wake up at 5:30 AM and carve out time just for me – devotional, journaling, no phone, no tech. I spend the first 15 minutes of my day grounding myself, not reacting to the world.

  • CEO mode happens while the house is still quiet.From 5:45 to 6:45 AM, I tackle high-focus work – whether that’s client strategy, big-picture planning, or projects that require my full attention.

  • Mom mode kicks in after that.When it’s time to get the kids ready, that’s all I’m doing. Packing lunches, waking sleepyheads, getting breakfast ready. No emails. No Slack notifications. No work distractions.

That separation matters more than I ever realized. When I’m “on” as a mom, I’m fully present. When I’m “on” as a CEO, I’m fully focused. And I don’t live with that constant guilt that I’m short-changing one side of my life.

Small Changes That Made a Big Difference

Beyond scheduling, I made a few other shifts that helped tremendously:

  • I block CEO time and mom time on my calendar– and honor them equally. They’re both important. They both get dedicated space.

  • I keep two separate Chrome browsers open. One for work. One for personal life. That way, I don’t “accidentally” slide into answering client emails when I’m supposed to be ordering school supplies or reviewing permission slips.

  • I release the pressure to be everywhere at once.Some days, the house is messy. Some days, an email reply waits an extra few hours. And that’s okay – because I’m showing up fully where it matters most in each moment.

The biggest shift wasn’t logistical. It was emotional. I had to believe that I was worthy of a life that didn’t require constant hustle and divided attention.

A Different Kind of Balance

Real work life balance for moms isn’t about fitting more in. It’s about being intentional about what matters – and giving yourself permission to be all-in for it.

When you stop trying to multitask your way to success, you actually:

  • Lower your stress levels

  • Increase your energy and focus

  • Strengthen your relationships with your family and yourself

  • Enjoy your business and motherhood so much more

True balance doesn’t mean everything gets equal time every day. It means you’re living in alignment with your values, your goals, and the season you’re in.
